Starting today, bank customers can withdraw cash as needed not only from private banks but also from ATM machines.

“People had to line up to withdraw their savings at the ATM machine in Kyauk Myaung ward. Customers can take out as much as they need. Many people are withdrawing their savings at the ATMs,” said a local from Tamwe Township.

The Ayeyarwady and CB banks have announced 24-hour cash withdrawals at the nearest ATMs. Additionally, CRM (cash deposit/withdrawal machines) have been topped up at bank branches, crowded places such as shopping centers, hotels, ATMs in payroll factories, and hospitals.

Cash can also be withdrawn from the KBZ, Yoma, and Ayeyarwady banks.

“People have to take out their savings as needed from private banks. Currently, people are withdrawing their savings from private banks. I didn't have to wait too long and withdrew only 10 lakh from the private bank. I had to wait for a moment,” said a person from South Oakkalapa Township.

Last week, amid steep inflation and a freefalling economy, banks began restricting the amounts of cash that could be withdrawn each day, with some banks only issuing money when there was a depositor, according to a local from North Dagon Myothit Township.

"Last week, it was inconvenient to withdraw savings at the bank. Money was only taken out when there was a depositor. At that time, a person could withdraw a maximum amount of only 10 lakhs. Some banks allowed withdrawals between 2 lakhs and 5 lakhs,” said a businessman from North Dagon Myothit Township.
