258 Myanmar citizens detained at the 5-story building of Ranong Provincial Immigration detention center staged a protest demanding to send them home on January 2, according to Thailand News Media.
Myanmar detainees pressed the prison’s door shut and staged a protest. There are 210 males and 48 females detained there. The reason of the protest was to speed up the process of sending them back to Myanmar.
Last year, similar incident occurred at the Ranong prison for delaying in sending Myanmar citizens back to Myanmar. After officials from Myanmar negotiated with the authority, about 200 Myanmar detainees were able to return to Myanmar.
