The International Employment Agency of the government has issued a reminder to Myanmar workers not to bring any items that are banned by South Korea, such as betel leaves and fried meat.

This is because some workers who returned to South Korea through Incheon Airport, an international airport in Korea, faced fines and confiscation of their items at the airport on December 14, the agency said.

The agency also advised Myanmar workers who are going to Korea to avoid bringing any prohibited items, so that they can maintain a good reputation and enter the country smoothly.

Some of the items that South Korea does not allow include tobacco, cheroot, fried meat, dried meat, oranges, sausages, limes, dried fish and canned food.

The agency reported that the Korean government has imposed a penalty of at least three million to five million won and denial of entry for those who violate the rules.

The agency added that fruits and dried fruits, seeds, plants, and foods derived from animals are also not allowed to be carried.

Myanmar workers are employed in various sectors in Korea, such as manufacturing, agriculture, construction, and others.

To work in South Korea, a worker has to pass a Korean language test, and only then he can apply for a job and go to work.

Overseas employment agencies said that many Myanmar youths are migrating to countries like Malaysia, Thailand, as well as Korea and Japan, where they can earn higher wages.
