A Myanmar worker was reportedly killed and another injured by a crane failure at a sky-high freeway construction site in Bangkok, Thailand, on December 15.

Two Myanmar workers walking at the construction site were hit by the collapse of an iron bucket while it was being pulled by a crane.

35-year-old Htein Min Lwin (aka) Htin Min Lin died, while 44-year-old Kyaw Kyaw was injured and taken to PMG Hospital.

Chairman of the Joint Action Committee for Burmese Affairs (JACBA) U Moe Gyo said that fragments of construction machines might collapse as those engaged in various construction sites and passersby should take special care of themselves.

"The accident happened in the Bangkok metropolitan area as two Myanmar workers walked. A fragment of a defective crane collapse and fell on them. One was killed and one was injured. Thailand's Human Rights Development Foundation (HRDF) or the Myanmar labour attaché’s office, or both needs to be contacted by the Myanmar community with full documents they hold to see if both are fully entitled to compensation in line with the Thai law. We need to be especially cautious because construction machines may collapse," he said.

According to reports from Thailand, officials will conduct an investigation into the cause of the fault of the construction site.
