The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) has announced that there have been more than two million people who have fled their homes due to armed conflict and insecurity in Myanmar.

Ongoing armed conflicts, monsoon floods and barriers to access to aid have worsened the humanitarian situation for those displaced across the country, UNOCHA said.

Since October 27, nearly 50,000 people have fled their homes due to fierce fighting between the Tatmadaw and ethnic armed organizations in northern Shan State. Currently, more than two million people are displaced across the country, UNOCHA said in the statement.

Unceasing monsoon floods have caused severe economic and agricultural losses, particularly in the south-east of the country, and exacerbated the humanitarian situation, UNOCHA said in the statement.

Access and administrative limitations have resulted in long delays or postponements of planned relief efforts, further affecting victims and displaced persons, UNOCHA said in the statement.

To date, both the humanitarian response plan and the emergency funding request for Cyclone Mocha are still very much in need of funding, with only 28 percent of the total requirement being funded, and additional funding and easing access restrictions are urgently needed for humanitarian organizations to respond to emergency needs, UNOCHA said in the statement.
