There will be a final argument on June 6 over the criminal revision of former President U Win Myint and former State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s jail sentences, sources said.
The defendants’ lawyers have applied for criminal revision over the cases in which U Win Myint and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi were prosecuted and sentenced to three years in prison under Section 130 (a) of the Penal Code for improperly influencing the Union Election Commission (UEC) in the 2020 general election, and for the case in which Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was prosecuted and sentenced to three years in prison under Section 3(1) (c) / 9 of the Official Secrets Act.
In addition, the lawyers have applied for criminal revision over the charges related to five cases dealing with the purchase and lease of a helicopter in which U Win Myint and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi were prosecuted and sentenced to seven years in prison under the anti-corruption laws.
Therefore, the final argument about all the seven cases will be heard in the next court trial due on June 6.
Likewise, there will be verbal and written applications on June 6 for criminal revision of the case against former Union Minister U Min Thu in which he was prosecuted and sentenced to three years in prison under Section 130 (a) of the Penal Code for improperly influencing the UEC in the 2020 general election.
At present, U Win Myint has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for eight cases and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been sentenced to 32 years in prison for 19 cases. The sentences of both were reduced by two years on December 6, 2021.
