The Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDA) started its third conference at the USDP headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw on October 4, and party chairman U Than Htay said he had not expressed his wish to run for the election of Central Executive Committee membership. 

As the conference opened, those in attendance saluted the State Flag, played the national anthem and took a one-minute silence in honour of the fallen party members, security forces and public members. 

Speaking on the occasion, USDP chair U Than Htay said: After the incumbent CEC handed over their duties, those meeting the set qualifications could express their wishes to serve as members of a new CEC to be formed. For me, September 24, I expressed my wish not continue to serve. I would say this is nothing to do with what the social media are saying and criticizing.”

He pointed out several reasons why he didn’t want to continue serve such as priority to new blood and loss of life and property of those mentioned above that he failed to protect as party leader. 

During the two-day conference, a new party chairman and CEC members will be selected.
