Myawaddy Min Gyi Monastery Sayadaw was defrocked and brought to trial at Pyigyi Tagon Township court on February 3.

After the military had announced the State of Emergency, the police arrested Sayadaw on February 1 evening and brought him to trial on February 3 evening.

“Today's court hearing was to interrogate the witnesses from the Sayadaw but the lawyer from Sayadaw didn’t appear at the court and so another court appearing was requested. Therefore, February 9 is set for another court hearing. Sayadaw was charged with penal court Section 500,” said Kyi Pyar Sint, information officer of Pyigyi Tagon Township court.

He was accused by the military that the interview with the Khit Thit Media defamed the military and was charged with Section 500 of the Penal Code at the Mandalay Pyigyi Tagon Township court in 2019 by the military. He was released on bill but was arrested again on February 1 evening after the military announced the State of Emergency.
