Police investigate suspected explosion in Taunggyi

TAUNGGYI - The police are now investigating a possible explosion that occurred nearing Thittaw Ward, Taunggyi Township, Southern Shan State, on the evening of November 2nd.

“The police chief had already been instructed. But, there was no report made until yesterday evening. I’m waiting for the police chief’s report. If I know,  I will announce it,” said Soe Nyunt Lwin, the Planning and Finance Minister of the Shan State Government Committee. 

“Currently, it isn’t unusual. We are now searching for evidence of the incident. If we know, we will reply about it,” said Lt-Police Col. Zaw Htay Oo from Taunggyi District Police Force.

Since the beginning of yesterday morning, the police force formed a team aiming to scour the jungle thoroughly to uncover the suspected explosion by using drones.

Locals reported hearing two violent explosions, coming to the west of the police staff quarter near the foot of the mountain of Thittaw Ward in Taunggyi Township on November 2. 

It launched an investigation of over 100 authorities, including the police and military men, taking to the field to investigate the source of the alleged explosions by dividing into three groups.

The people living in the police staff quarters also said that they heard two explosions in succession with a gap of about five seconds. They also reported seeing flames shooting up into the sky as well as dust falling down on their houses. 

There were no injuries.

If the police finds out more about the source of the alleged explosions, they will inform the public through the Shan State Government Committee, says the Police Chief from Shan State Police Force
