A total of 19 monks from Sunlungu Vipassana Monastery were found infected with COVID-19 virus and the authorities took swab tests for more than 200 people including monks and nuns from the monastery, said MP Nay Hpone Latt of No.1 Thingangyun Constituency for Yangon Region.
“A novice from the monastery reported his lost sense of smell and we found that he was infected with the virus. So we took a swab test on 19 monks who had contact with the confirmed patient and found them infected with the virus. I cannot confirm whether they are included in the list of patients announced yesterday night or not as I only knew about it,” he said.
The monastery has now been placed on lockdown.
Myanmar tested 301,393 samples till 8 pm of October 1 and found 14,383 confirmed patients. 4,156 of them are allowed to be discharged from the hospital and 321 of them are dead, announced the Ministry of Health and Sports (MOHS).
