The Shan State's public health department had assigned 20 more nurses to Yangon to deal with the recent explosion of COVID-19 cases and deaths.
A total of 20 nurses, 10 from Women & Children Hospital, 9 from assorted townships and one from a midwifevry school left their home region on September 28.
The department head Dr. Thuzar Chit Tin confirmed that they left this morning.
"We have been earmarking nurses, doctors and other qualified staffs, such as those that can handle X-Ray and Scans. And around two doctors. For now, we are sending 10 nurses. We will be giving them around one Lakh to get to Yangon and of course, protectctive equipment like gloves, masks, hand gels and so on. If they get there, they will have to look after their own health. We have to help. Yangon is seeing multiple times the infection rate. Two X-Ray experts will be sent to November. Of course, if Yangon will accept them. If there is a need for more, more people will be chosen. We will have to make do with lesser personnel here. We could manage anyhow previously and nowadays, the equipment are much better so it alleviates the burden on us. We all chose randomly. We did not specifically target this or that person to go. If Yangon needs more, we must reinforce more. But we have around 20 doctors left and we have to leave some behind for the patients in Taunggyi. As for accomodations, they will have to decide in Yangon. As for us, we have been in extremely rural places and warzones ever since becoming a dcotor. So now is a battle against the pandemic. We are public servants and we will have to abide by our duty and serve," said the chief of Taunggyi's Women & Children Clinic Dr. Myat Khine.
In that hospital, there were over 90 nurses and after 10 nurses were sent to Yangon, Dr. Myat Khine says that they will have to make do with what they have.
Sat San Tun Hospital from Taunggyi also sent 20 nurses to Yangon on September 22.
Most nurses from Shan will have to serve in the new, temporary hospital erected in South Dagon Township.
There are five COVID-19 positive patients at the Sat San Tun Hospital in Taunggyi with one death of a 67-year old male man that returned from Yangon.
