As Yangon Zoological Garden has been closed during COVID-19 and thus no income, arrangements have been made so that the animals would not starve, according to an official from the zoo.

Preparations were made before the closure of Yangon Zoological Garden according to Myint Thein, an official of the zoo.

“We have prepared for the health as well as not to occur food shortages for the animals. We called contracts for supplying grass, beef, and chicken and for other items which will be required for the zoo. Because of that plan, there are no food shortages till now,” said Myint Thein.

As the opening of a zoological garden is not a business which earns a lot, income from ticket sales were never included in the budget. Although there is no income during the closure, we used the budget from the Htoo Zoos and Gardens Business unit, continued Myint Thein.

If there is any instruction for opening of the zoo by the government, preparations have been made for the reopening.

There are over 1400 animals in the Yangon zoological garden. At present, Yangon zoological garden is operated by the Htoo Trading company.
