Sagaing Region has seen 300 cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) with three deaths, overtaking Yangon Region which usually saw the highest outbreak among other regions.
According to official data available from January 1 to May 30 this year, Sagaing Region had 74 cases and two deaths in ChaungU Township, 57 cases in Yinmabin Township and 47 cases and one death in Butalin Township.
Mon State, experiencing the second highest outbreak, had 43 cases in Mawlamyine Township and 37 cases and two deaths in Paung Township.
During the period, the whole country saw 1,480 DHF cases and 11 deaths, the Ministry of Health and Sports reported.
In the first five months of this year, the DHF outbreak is getting high in Mandalay, Sagaing and Magway Regions and Mon State.
Till May 16, Yangon Region had 24 cases in South Dagon Township, 16 cases in Htantabin Township, 16 cases in Shwepyitha Township, 15 cases in Hlinethaya Township, 14 cases in Dala Township, 11 cases in North Dagon Township, 10 cases in Thingangyun Township, 10 cases in Insein Township, eight cases in Thanlyin Township and seven cases in North Oakkalapa Township.
According to the Ministry of Health and Sports, both DHF and Covid-19 are highly likely in populated regions like Yangon.
