Swabs of over 150 people in contact with 249th Covid-19 patient to be tested

More than 150 people who had contact with the Covid-19 patient (Case No.249) serving at Lwejal border gate in Kachin State in June will have their swabs tested, said an official from Momauk Township Public Health Department. 

Of the over 150 samples, 73 were collected on June 12, 37 on June 13 and 41 on June 14, said San Naing from the department. 

“Today (June 13), 37 swabs were collected. Tomorrow, 41 swabs will be collected. We have traced contacts during this month. There are over 20 pregnant women. Their movements are being restricted,” San Naing said. 

According to the government data, the 249th Covid-19 patient went to 16 places. He engaged in several activities such as serving his duty at Lwekal border gate, doing a training course, helping vaccinate expectant mothers and children, giving public medical treatment and living together with his family members. 

The Kachin State Covid-19 Control and Response Committee has reviewed that the number of contacts with the patient might be larger. 

Currently, the patient is at an isolation ward of Bhamo People’s Hospital. His health condition is stable. 

An examiner who had contact with the patient, and his friend are in facility quarantine at Myitkyina People’s Hospital. And the movement of 56 roommates who had contact with the examiner is also being restricted. 

The movement of five more people who had contact with them is also being restricted. Moreover, 49 local people in the Maijayan region had contact with the patient, leading to the closure of the Maijayan border gate. 

The 249th Covid-19 patient is asymptomatic. He is a staff member from Kachin State Public Health Department.
