Yangon—The government will provide the needy people who have no regular income, with five kinds of kitchen supplies during the Thingyan Holidays and exempt up to 150 units of the household power bill for April, according to a statement by Myanmar State Counsellor Office on 6 April.

The government scrutinized the public’s suggestions given to State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi who is also the chair of the Central Committee for Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19, and sought and reviewed the best possible ways to satisfy the public’s demands, according to the statement.

The five kitchen supplies are eight Pyis of rice, 50 ticals of edible oil, 50 ticals of salt, one viss of lentil and one viss of onion. Starting 10 April, the government will distribute these supplies to each household which has no regular income during the long holidays.

In order to avoid unnecessary wastes, delays, and corruption, the Union government will carry out the compilation of lists under the supervision of relevant region/state governments and the packaging, transport and distribution of supplies in cooperation with departments, UMFCCI, town-elders, social organizations and youth philanthropic organizations, the statement says.

The public, religious organizations and local social organizations (excluding embassies, UN agencies, and international organizations) will be exempted from the payment of power bill for up to 150 units for April.
