Authorities are speeding up novel coronavirus screening measures at Yangon International Airport for travellers entering Myanmar through Chinese airlines as well as other international airlines, according to airport sources.
"To prevent novel coronavirus, Yangon airport is expediting monitoring tasks for those who arrive through all international airlines including Chinese airlines. We are paying special attention to the health of all those arriving at the airport as well as airport staff. We are closely cooperating with the Ministry of Health and Sports, the national health authority of the country," said an official from Yangon airport.
A total of 85 people who arrived at the airport from the Chinese city of Wuhan on January 23 morning were screened and there was no suspected case. Monitoring tasks are being expedited for all international flights including those from Wuhan.
The airport health quarantine team is taking charge of screening with the use of WHO-recognized infrared thermal scanners.
The airport health department issued a warning that if any passenger has flu-like symptoms such as fever, cough and difficulty breathing or has had such symptoms 14 days before, the case must promptly be reported to the airport health department or nearby health departments.
