A slight earthquake of magnitude 4.6 Richter Scale with its epicenter inside Myanmar (about 14 miles north-northwest of Falam), latitude 23.12°N, longitude 93.66°E, depth 26 kilometers, about 33 miles north-northeast of Hakha seismological observatory was recorded on December 2, 2019, announced the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

A moderate earthquake of magnitude 5.4 Richter Scale with its epicenter inside Myanmar (about 23 miles northeast of Thabeikkyin), was also hit on November 28 damaging over 100 houses in seven villages in Thabeikkyin Township.

An earthquake is the shaking of the surface of the earth resulting from a sudden release of energy in the earth's lithosphere that creates seismic waves.

Sagaing Fault, which started from Putao, Kachin State to Motaband, is a major fault line in Myanmar. Moreover Myanmar has Kabaw, Kyaukkyan, Momeik and other 40 smaller faults.
