Two nursing schools and one midwifery school are being constructed with a budget approved in the current 2018-2019 fiscal year, according to a record on three-year work progress in the Ministry of Health and Sports. 

During the three years under the ruling government, 25,575 more officers and staffers were appointed for the treatment and public health sector. Of the total number appointed, 11,807 were appointed from April 2016 to March 2017, 10,150 from April 2017 to March 2018 and 3,618 from April 2018 to March 2019. Currently, 16,000 officers and 95,000 lower level staff members are working under the ministry of health and sports. However, only about 55 percent of the organizational set-up of the ministry has been appointed. 

"Now, the ministry has 16,913 officers and 95,486 lower level staffers. That accounts for 55 percent of the organizational set-up. Under the current government, we appointed 3,988 assistant surgeons, 516 dentists, 381 health assistants, 191 assistant traditional medicine practitioners, 2,408 pharmacists, 5,681 nurses, 3,005 midwives, 3,000 public health supervisors (2), 130 junior engineers and 930 nurse aids," said Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr Myint Htwe. 

Out of 35,127 nurses approved for central and region/ state level public hospitals under  the ministry, 19,950 have been appointed so far.
