Myanmar's Ambassador to Bangladesh, U Kyaw Soe Moe, held separate meetings with Bangladesh's Minister of Commerce and the Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources to discuss reviving bilateral trade mechanisms, a proposed gas pipeline project, and energy cooperation, according to Myanmar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ambassador U Kyaw Soe Moe, based at the Myanmar Embassy in Dhaka, paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh's Minister of Commerce, Mr. Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, at the Ministry of Commerce on August 2, the ministry said.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on expanding bilateral trade in agricultural products, fisheries products, rice, pharmaceuticals and other commodities, enhancing maritime transportation, importing liquefied natural gas (LNG), and facilitating the repatriation of displaced persons.
They also discussed resuming the Myanmar-Bangladesh Joint Trade Committee (JTC) meetings and the bilateral consultations between the two countries' foreign ministries, both of which have been suspended.
On the same day, Ambassador U Kyaw Soe Moe also paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh's Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Iqbal Hassan Mahmood, at the ministry.
During their discussions, the two sides focused on the proposed Myanmar-Bangladesh gas pipeline project, energy trade between the two countries, and the importance of maintaining good neighborly relations.
The meetings were attended by senior officials from Bangladesh's Ministry of Commerce, the Deputy Minister and senior officials from the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, as well as officials from the Myanmar Desk of Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
