Yangon region exports 7,300 live cattle to China in one year

A total of 73 companies from Myanmar exported 7,300 live cattle from Yangon to China via Muse during one year, said Han Tun, Yangon Region Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, Forest and Energy, at the session of Yangon Region Parliament on October 9.

MP Yan Shin from Mayangone Township Constituency 2 raised a question on the exports of cattle from Yangon region.

Until September 30, Yangon region exported 7,300 live cattle—4,930 cows and 2370 buffalos. Only Yangon region north and south districts can export cattle to China via Muse, he added.

He continued on saying that, according to the notification issued by the Commerce Ministry on October 9, 2017, the government allowed one-year trial exports of live cattle. It is done in accordance with the existing Animal Health and Development Law, procedures and rules drafted for cattle exports. The region government plans to amend some procedures after the expiry of a test-run period based on operations.

There are 490 cultured cows, 230 meat cows, 295 milk cows, 160 buffalo, 150 goats and 1,128 pigs in Hlaingthayar Township.

The region government is operating breeding zones and other related works. In addition, the region government operates animal feed warehouses, rubber and the production of fertilizers from animal wastes.  

In Yangon region, there are over 174,000 buffalo, over 700,000 cows, over 130,000 goats, over 1.4 million pigs, over 4.8 million chickens and over 4.1 million ducks.
