About 300 workers protest in front of the Supreme Asia garment factory in Shwe Pyi Thar Township over worksite discrimination.

One of the protesters Win Htut said that he and fellow workers protested over the dismissal of a Human Resource manager without giving any notice. Next, foreigners at the factory oppressed the workers and they didn’t want to tolerate this kind of oppression. Another thing for protest is for salary.

The workers demanded 20 points including to get one hour fully as recess time, to get a reasonable salary to workers and to give a reasonable amount of salary to aged workers. In the afternoon, the head of the workers met in charge of the garment factory and negotiations were successfully made.

“We got satisfactory results through negotiations. Some points we demanded will be settled in the meeting and some will be done in accordance with the law,” said Win Htut.

He added that workers were satisfied with the results and solutions can be made only when the protest was made.

The garment factory has been operating for 8 years and there are about 300 workers there according to the workers.
