A ward administrative member and his wife from Myo Thit 5 ward in Chanmyathazi Township, Mandalay Region were shot killing the wife at around 8:30 am on January 26, sources said.

The incident took place in front of No.16 Basic Primary School on 111 Street between 69th and 70th Road in Myo Thit 5 Ward, Chanmyathazi Township. U Hla Myint, the ward administrative member and wife Daw Khin Myo Oo, a couple returning from the market, were shot by two unidentified men.

“It is known that the man is the ward administrative member of Myo Thit 5 ward. They were shot by two unidentified men riding on a motorcycle. The woman died on the spot after being hit in the chest. The man is in critical condition,” said a resident near the scene.

The man was being treated for a gunshot wound to the neck and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The police are conducting investigation in connection with the incident.
