Untimely rainfall may occur in 11 states and regions including Nay Pyi Taw due to warm whirlwinds from east and west, announced the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

“The whirlwind from the west had intensified and may cross the middle areas of Myanmar especially in Chin and Kachin states as well as Sagaing Region with widespread to scattered rains. Rakhine and Shan states and Magway and Mandalay regions may see isolated rain. Southern areas of Myanmar will have rain clouds due to the whirlwind from the east. Rain or thundershowers are likely to be isolated in Mon and Kayin states and Taninthayi Region,” said Dr Kyaw Moe Oo, Director General of the DMH.

Weather phenomenon has changed due to global warming and warm air currents such as these whirlwinds have been crossing Myanmar frequently, he said.
