Unknown gunmen kill a man in Techilek in daylight

A total of two gun shoot-outs occurred in Techilek after police conducted a three-month long operation to vanquish casinos in the town and one man is shot and killed by unknown gunmen in the afternoon of February 13, said the police.

“The situation in Techilek is confusing and two gun shoot-outs occurred after the police raided casinos,” said MP Khin Maung Tint of Techilek Constituency.

The shooting was occurred on Tun Lin Aung Road, Sansoi ward in the afternoon and the gunmen shot after the decease parked his car and stood beside his car, according to witnesses.

The man who was killed is a 42 years old Li Htike Yone and the police found bullet holes in his car. They also found bullet wounds in his arm, under the neck and his chest.

The operation to crack down the casinos started on the afternoon of February 6 after the President arrived in Taunggyi and made a comment to take action on the casinos in Techilek. The police raided casinos in five places in Techilek in the afternoon. Abou 5,000 workers working in casinos demanded the authorities to deal with the situation they faced as they are jobless. Moreover the head of district police force, the head of township police force and head of police station are replaced with new ones about one week ago.

A Thai citizen shot a sacred altar in front of a hotel in Techilek on February 12 and the police found slot machines and narcotics drugs.
