UEC Announces Names of 56 Military Personnel Appointed as Amyotha Hluttaw Representatives, Including Maj-Gen Kyaw Thura Aye

The Union Election Commission (UEC) on February 8 issued Announcement No. (33/2026) releasing the list of 56 military personnel, including Major General Kyaw Thura Aye, appointed as representatives to the Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House).

According to the UEC, during the multi-party general election held in phases starting from December 28, 2025, the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services submitted the names of military personnel for the Amyotha Hluttaw in accordance with the provisions of Chapter (8) of the Amyotha Hluttaw Election Law. After scrutiny, the UEC declared these individuals as military representatives to the Amyotha Hluttaw under Section 31 of the law.

Among the 56 appointed military representatives led by Maj-Gen Kyaw Thura Aye are six brigadier generals, 16 colonels, five lieutenant colonels, 21 majors, and seven captains. Six of them are female military officers.

Similarly, on February 7, the UEC released the list of 110 military personnel appointed as representatives to the Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House), led by Maj-Gen Ye Kyaw Thu. The list includes 10 brigadier generals, 18 colonels, 42 lieutenant colonels, 27 majors, and 12 captains.

Of the 110 military representatives to the Pyithu Hluttaw, 22 are female military officers.
