The first regular session of the Third Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House) convened today (March 18) at 10:00 a.m., during which U Aung Lin Dway was elected as Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw.
At the session, Daw Dwe Bu, an Amyotha Hluttaw representative from Kachin State Constituency No. (5), presided over the proceedings as chair. The election of both the Speaker and Deputy Speaker was carried out during the meeting.
U Aung Lin Dway is a representative of Mandalay Region Amyotha Hluttaw Constituency No. (11). He was elected in the recent general election as a proportional representation (PR) candidate from the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) for Mandalay Region Constituency No. (3).
He previously served in the Tatmadaw, rising to the rank of General. He also held key positions as Secretary of the State Administration Council and as Executive Chief of the National Defence and Security Council.
As the newly elected Speaker of the Third Amyotha Hluttaw, U Aung Lin Dway will also serve as Speaker of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (Union Parliament) for the first two-and-a-half-year term of the Third Union Parliament.
