Two men have been arrested for allegedly robbing a female government staff member at knifepoint in Pobbathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw.

The incident occurred on October 10, 2025, at around 5 pm. when Daw Su Mon Kyaw, 40, a government staff from the Ministry of Immigration and Population residing in Kyauk Chet Village, Zeyathiri Township, was riding her motorcycle home from Office No. (48) along Mandalay Road. Two men on a motorcycle intercepted her, threatened her with a knife, and stole her Samsung Note 10 Plus mobile phone, a platinum necklace, about 150,000 kyats in cash, and a handbag containing employee and ATM cards.

Following the report, Patta Police Station in Pubbathiri Township opened a case under Section 382 of the Penal Code (robbery after preparation for causing harm). The suspects were later identified as Kaung San Htay (aka Myat Thu Aung aka Melone) and Ko Ko Htun, both residents of Yan Aung (2) Ward, Pyinmana Township. They were arrested on the morning of October 14 near Basic Education High School No. (1) in Lewe Township. Police also seized the motorcycle used in the crime, the stolen mobile phone, and 100,000 kyats in cash.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed that they followed the victim along Mandalay Road, stopped her motorcycle near the royal residence, and robbed her at knifepoint. They later took the money from the handbag near Waibula Monastery before discarding it.

The stolen items and cash were divided between them — Kaung San Htay kept the necklace and 50,000 kyats, while Ko Ko Htun took the mobile phone and another 50,000 kyats.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine whether the suspects are involved in other criminal cases and are working to recover the remaining stolen property.
