A quarry collapse occurred on the afternoon of May 25 near Shintheewali Monastery in Taung Nyo Village, southeast of Sagaing Region, resulting in two fatalities and one injury.
According to local sources, residents from Taung Nyo and Kyaukta villages extract rocks from the nearby Minwon mountain range for use in poultry feed production. The collapse injured a woman and claimed the lives of Ko Than Zaw (38) and Daw Tin Po (48).
"A quarry collapse like this isn’t unusual during the rainy season. There have been cases where people lost their lives or suffered amputations," said a representative from the Pyusin Metta Association in Kyaukta Village.
The injured woman, Ma Ei Ei Soe, was transported to a hospital by the Pyusin Metta Association. The two deceased individuals were taken to the outpatient department of Sagaing General Hospital and later transported back, according to the Obo Rescue Team.
