Truck drivers, helpers checked for COVID-19 before entering Mandalay

Truck drivers and their helpers going to Mandalay Region but unable to show virus clearance certificate are being tested free of charge at the Yamething Township trucks checkpoint, at the entrance of Mandalay Region on October 2, according to Yamething Township general administrative department.

The antigen test kit virus tests were carried out by the doctors from public hospitals, laboratory health staff according to Zaw Min Han from Yamething Township general administrative department.

“On October 2 mornings, there were about 337 trucks and they didn’t have the virus free certificates. When we submitted the matter to the Mandalay Region chief minister, he then submitted it to the union level and now is testing with kits free of charge,” said Zaw Min Han.

It was found out that only one person among 100 truck drivers tested positive. The positive case patient was given health assistance according to the health standard.

“At present, there are more than 300 trucks with 600 people. We will give a health check about 440 today. Now, we give green light to 50 trucks to enter Mandalay Region and so, there are less trucks now,” he continued.

According to the announcement of the regional government issued on September 29, those who want to enter the city need a virus free certificate from the Ministry of Health and Sports that is valid for two weeks from the date of testing. So, there are over 300 trucks waiting at the checkpoint.
