Trees collapse, two children injured, some homes damaged in high winds in Hpa-an

Some trees fell down, some homes were damaged, and two children were injured in strong winds in the town of Hpa-an of Kayin State this morning, local sources said.

At about 10am today, a 20-foot-high mango tree in a house in Aung Mingalar Street, Ward-9, Hpa-an collapsed onto the house due to the high winds.  

“Due to the tree collapse, two children in the house got minor injuries. The house was partly destroyed,” said a local resident.

Likewise, another tree collapsed on Khaing Shwe Wah Road in Ward-9.

Firefighters, social aid organizations and local residents were clearing the debris.

Many parts of Myanmar are facing strong winds and heavy rain due to the impact of cyclone Mocha.

Cyclone Mocha coded brown stage started moving near the town of Sittwe in Rakhine State at a wind speed of over 130 miles per hour, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology reported.
