Traffic has been re-allowed to pass over the bridge on Hpa-an-Thaton Road that was mined earlier this morning after authorities have conducted checks, local sources say.

Motorcycles and small private cars were allowed to pass over the bridge starting from 9.30 am, and then cargo trucks at about 12.30 pm.

“Traffic was re-allowed after officials concerned came and inspected the bridge. Large cars can pass one by one on the side of the bridge with little damage,” said a local resident.

The bridge (No.1/13), located on Hpa-an-Thaton Road near Guwa Village in Naungkyan Village-tract, Hpa-an Township, Kayin State, was mined around 1am today.

A local resident said an explosion was heard around 1am today (July 10). Due to the blast, the lower structure and railings of the bride were damaged while cracks appeared in its ceiling.

The bridge that serves as a trade route for Myawady, Hpa-an, Thaton and Yangon is about 60 feet long, the longest one on Hpa-an-Thaton road section, according to local sources.
