Three storms may occur this winter season and Myanmar needs to be careful of storms in November and December, said Dr Kyaw Moe Oo, Director General of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).
“The storms that occurred in November and December were formed in late monsoon season. About 10 or 15 per cent of storms that occur during this period in Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal headed to Myanmar. They start formed in Andaman Sea and sometimes in Thailand before coming to the Bay of Bengal via Andaman Sea. Strong wind affected Myanmar last year when storm occurred and we need to be careful of storms in November and December,” said Dr Kyaw Moe Oo.
According to weather forecast for winter season by the DMH, four low pressure areas may form over the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal and three may further intensity into the depression. Weather will be generally fair over the North Bay and partly cloudy over the Andaman Sea and elsewhere over the Bay of Bengal.
