Three men were killed in Hpakant, Kachin State on August 17 according to local sources.

Two young men died of gunshot wounds were found in front of the gems market and Yumar Bridge on August 17. They were shot in the heads and chests. A piece of paper that reads thieves and robbers was also found on the chest of one dead man.

On the same day around 9:00 pm, Ko Tun Aung Kyaw, manager of Green City KTV from Lonekhin village, Hpakant, was shot dead by unknown men. He was shot four times in the head and chest. He died instantly at the scene.

“We heard that it had been quite some time that money was asked from the owner and now the manager was killed. We didn’t know which group carried out the attack,” said a man close to the case.

Hpakankt is a place where killings, robberies, lootings and murders have frequently occurred after the 2021 political changes. About 70 people have been killed so far in the area.
