Thailand has repatriated 61 Myanmar nationals who had served prison sentences in the country, sending them back to Kawthaung, according to reports.
The 61 individuals were transported by waterway from Ranong, Thailand, to Kawthaung, Myanmar, on February 2. The group consisted of 44 men and 17 women. They were escorted by a Myanmar consular officer and handed over to Myanmar authorities upon arrival in Kawthaung.
The returnees had been arrested in 14 districts in southern Thailand for various reasons and had served their sentences there. After completing their prison terms, Thai authorities arranged for their repatriation.
Upon arrival, the Myanmar nationals underwent health checks and screening procedures, including verification of whether any were on blacklist records, wanted for human trafficking cases, or if any foreign nationals were among the group. Authorities then made arrangements for them to return to their respective hometowns.
It was also reported that Thailand has repatriated Myanmar nationals three times during January 2026 and early February 2026.
