Telecom, tourism and pay-TV channel lead consumer complaints

Consumer Dispute-Handling Committee under the Consumer Affairs Department has received 200 complaints this year, most of which relates to telecomm, tourism and pay-TV channels, said Swe Tint Kyu, Director of Consumer Affairs Department.

He added that the department received many complaints about the service sector. Tour companies did not give the full services described in their schedules. Last year, there were a total of 104 complaints. From April to August this year, the number of complaints reached over 150. Now the number of cases has increased to 200. In the past, the people sent their complaint letters to the office. Now, the department has hosted its own website where the information and the complaint form are available and easier to access. Consumers can also first lodge their complaints to Consumer Information and Complaints Centre (CICC) page on the social network, facebook.

The number of complaints about sub-standard quality and service within the Food and Beverages industry has increased. The department has urged consumers to file complaints about changes to the manufacturing and expiry dates. The people can send their complaints to the Consumer Affairs Department, the CICC and CICC (Nay Pyi Taw) and dial 0673-430468 and 0673-0430149 in Nay Pyi Taw and 01-245086 in Yangon Region.
