Students of 2017-18 academic years from Myanmar Maritime University (MMU) are visiting Myeik for their first sea training from October 5 to 8, sources said.

They are second year sophomore students of Nautical Science and third year Junior students of Marine Electrical System & Electronic Engineering. They were supervised by seven instructors, according to an official from the MMU.

They left for Myeik onboard the Taunggyi general cargo ship from Myanma Five Star Line on October 5.

The intentions to open the maritime university are to create job opportunities for maritime experts in international and inland water transports, to manage ports and shipping lanes, to build ships, to have job safety and to provide job opportunities for Myanmar citizens in cruise liners.

There are eight departments that offer a degree, seven supporting departments and three teaching departments at the university.
