State Counsellor visits South Korea to attend summits

State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi left for South Korea to attend ASEAN-Korea Summit and Mekong-Korea Summit, announced the State Counsellor’s Office on November 24.

The State Counsellor left Nay Pyi Taw on Sunday, at the invitation of President Moon Jae-in, to attend the 30th anniversary of the Korea-ASEAN Dialogue Relations and the 1st Mekong-ROK Summit in Busan, the Republic of Korea.

The State Counsellor and her entourage were seen off at the Nay Pyi Taw International Airport by Union Minister Kyaw Tint Swe, Chief of Myanmar Police Force Police Lt-Gen Aung Win Oo, Jung Yung Soo, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea (ROK) in Myanmar and officials, announced the State Counsellor’s Office.

The State Counsellor is accompanied by union ministers Dr Aung Thu and Kyaw Tin, deputy minister Dr Min Ye Paing Hein, vice mayor Ye Min Oo of Nay Pyi Taw Development Committee and departmental officials.

Union Minister Min Thu and party also took the same flight to attend the 2nd ASEAN-Korea Ministerial Roundtable and Exhibition on Public Service Innovation.

The State Counsellor and party arrived in Busan in the evening. They were welcomed by Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Lee Tae-ho and officials, Myanmar Ambassador to ROK Thant Sin Maung and wife Dr Nang Myat Soe, Korean Ambassador to Myanmar Lee Sang-hwa and officials and their family members of Myanmar embassy in ROK, together with the guard of honour of ROK at Gimhae Air Base in Busan. The State Counsellor and party then proceeded to the Lotte Hotel, where they are welcomed by Myanmar people in Korea at the entrance of the hotel.
