Some of the prison sentences for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and U Win Myint have been dropped, according to an order released by the State Administration Council (SAC) today.
The overturned sentences are related to Section 505 of the Penal Code of Myanmar, the Natural Disaster Management Law, the Telecommunications Law and the Export/Import Law.
Major General Zaw Min Tun, leader of the SAC information team, said: “Among the cases filed against her (Daw Aung San Suu Kyi) are the one under Section 505, the one under defamation suit and the one under Section 25 of the Disaster Management Law. Another case is related to the Telecommunications Law and another related to the Export/Import Law. Six years of those sentences will be dropped. Former President U Win Myint will have four years of his sentence reduced. One is related to the Disaster Management Law. Another is related to Section 505 (b).”
