Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) has expected to win more parliamentary seats in the upcoming election despite its fielding of smaller number of candidates as it has prioritized quality over quantity, said SNLD vice chair (2) Sai Nyunt Lwin.

He made the remark during his speech to the 32nd anniversary of party founding on October 26.

“We have decreased the number of candidates as much as possible. We focus on quality. So I hope we will win more seats,” he commented.

In the 2020 general election to be held on November 8, SNLD will have 131 candidates compete in Kachin State, Kayah State and Mandalay Region. It fielded 151 candidates in the 2015 election.

Sai Nyunt Lwin said his party candidates to be elected in the election will have more capacity to serve. And they will be instructed to serve both their supporters and non-supporters equally.

“I want to say that this point indicates we show a benevolent attitude towards the people regardless of which party favour,” he said.

He admitted that some township representatives from his party elected in the 2015 election had weaknesses in coordination with township executive committees in serving the regional interest.

“Anyhow, as we are all the same party members, we need to coordinate and collaborate with each other,” he added.

SNLD held the 32nd anniversary of the party's founding online on October 26 due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Party chairman Khun Tun Oo and vice chairman (1) Sai Nyunt Lwin made their speeches.
