The bodies of seven workers who went missing following a broken embankment at a construction site in Amarapura Township have been recovered.
The incident occurred on the morning of July 14, when a dam broke; flooding the construction site near Yakkantaw village, close to the Ayeyawady River. Initial search efforts led to the recovery of two bodies on the afternoon of July 16.
Subsequent search operations continued, resulting in the discovery of the remaining five bodies later that evening. All seven bodies were retrieved from the sewer area affected by the flooding.
At approximately 8:15 am on July 14, an accident occurred during the construction of a sewage pipe as part of the Amarapura urban development project in the Mandalay Region. Water entered the site at the entrance of Yanpyan village, causing seven out of the ten laborers present to drown and go missing.
Search and rescue operations were promptly initiated, utilizing rescue equipment in collaboration with members of the Myanmar Social Rescue Team and the Mandalay Region Fire Brigade.
The Amarapura urban development project, spearheaded by businessman U Maung Wai, involves an initial capital investment of 500 billion kyats and covers 2,000 acres around the Shan Lay Kyung area. The project is being developed by MBCCD (Mandalay Business Capital City Development) Company, now established as a public company.
