The Sedawgyi Dam located in Madaya Township, Mandalay Region, reached its full reservoir level of 419.5 feet as of the 4:00 p.m. gauge reading on August 5, according to official information.

The Dam's official  said that heavy rainfall of 4.25 inches recorded in Mogok Township on the morning of August 5 had significantly increased inflows into the reservoir. Water releases are being carefully regulated to minimize the impact on villages downstream of the dam. Authorities also emphasized that the dam remains structurally sound and there is no cause for concern regarding its safety.

Located northeast of Madaya Township in Mandalay Region, the Sedawgyi Dam had already begun releasing water through its spillway gates on the night of August 3, when the water level was about 1.5 feet below full capacity. Despite the controlled releases, the reservoir has now reached its designated full level.

The reservoir's full supply level is 419.5 feet, with a storage capacity of 363,000 acre-feet.

Officials said the controlled discharge is intended to protect the structural integrity of the dam while minimizing flood risks for downstream communities.

Residents in low-lying areas downstream of the dam have been advised to remain on alert. Authorities also reported that the water level at the Tanga Bridge monitoring station in Madaya Township had reached 95.6 feet, exceeding the designated danger level.

As water has begun overflowing stream banks near villages below the dam, the Myanmar Social Rescue Organization – Mandalay Region Committee has urged residents of Pagansu, Yechaung, Thabyechaung, and Indakha villages to move immediately to higher ground as a precaution.

The organization also said it has mobilized rescue teams and resources to provide prompt emergency assistance should the situation worsen.

"At present, travel along the Mogok–Mandalay road remains normal, and floodwater has not yet overtopped the roadway. Based on this morning's heavy rainfall, residents in some downstream villages have been advised to relocate to higher ground as a precaution. However, no emergency evacuation has been carried out so far," an official from the Myanmar Social Rescue Organization (Letpanhla Branch) said.
