The State Administration Council’s information team reported on December 5 that the military columns were able to recapture the local battalion in the town of Mone in Bago Region that had been temporarily occupied by KNLA and PDFs, and that security operations were under way in the town.
On the morning of December 3, KNLA and the PDF raided a local battalion in Mone, Kyaukkyi Township, Bago Region. Therefore, military personnel from the battalion resisted systematically, and the fighting intensified until the afternoon of December 4. Although the armed groups suffered heavy casualties, they received reinforcements and increased their attacks, so the military troops had to retreat temporarily for the safety of their families, who were moved to safer places by air.
With ground reinforcements, heavy weapon supplies and air assistance, the military troops on the morning of December 5 fought back and recaptured the area where the KNLA and PDF armed forces raided, forcing them to flee to north and east of the town in the afternoon with heave casualties. Now, regional security operations are being carried out, the SAC information team reported.
KNU Headquarters announced on December 4 that Light Infantry Battalions 599 and 590, the police station and the checkpoint of the bridge in Mone were occupied by KNLA and its allied forces, and that further information would be released. However, no further information was released until the night of December 5. Then, the SAC statement about the recapture of the town came.
The SAC information team said some media outlets released misinformation that on December 3, 1,500 armed group members captured the army battalion, the bridge, the entrance to the town, and the whole town, leaving the local people in panic. Therefore, the local residents need to be aware of such misinformation, and the military columns would continue their counterattacks.
