The National Unity Government (UNG) has declared a state of emergency as a tool to showcase one of their tasks at a time when the Union Nations General Assembly comes to convene, said Major General Zaw Min Tun, leader of the information team of the State Administration Council.

He made the remark after the NUG, a shadow government of Myanmar, declared the state of emergence across the country on September 7.

“First, they did so because the UN General Assembly is due to be convened on September 14. It is just their showcase of a task. This might have been so,” the major general commented.

PDF (People’s Defence Force) members planted mines and carried out bomb attacks. But later, they were exposed and arrested by security forces. Such arrests were explained at the SAC’s press conferences, he said.

A whole organization of so-called PDF members could be exposed in Yangon Region, while thousands of arms and ammunition were seized in Mandalay Region. Currently, the security forces have managed to restore stability more than ever, he added.

“They (NUG) know that they are gradually ending in failure. This is why they have to gear up. It’s their attempt to attract international attention,” said Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun.

He then called on the public not to fear because of the NUG’s declaration.

“Water supply, electricity supply and food supply will all break down. So gather food in advance. They are saying so. We have no reason to believe such rumours. I want to say that Myanmar is a country able to produce basic food. As ours is a country based on agriculture and livestock breeding, basic food will no way run out,” he insisted.

Currently, security is being tightened and security forces can guarantee public safety, he said.

He, however, called the public to stay vigilant against bomb blasts that could come in urban areas.
