Released migrant workers enter Kawthoung border gate from Thailand

MYEIK-99 Myanmar migrant workers who had been detained at the various places in Thailand have returned via the border gate in Kawthoung Township, Taninthayi Region, on the evening of December 18th.

Those returnees arrived in Kawthoung through water way via Ranong. Many of them hail from states and regions such as Rakhine, Mon , Bago, Taninthayi and Nay Pyi Taw. 

They were welcomed by the Kawthoung Township Administrator and departmental personnel who accommodated up to 99 returnees at the Mizuthaka Hall in Kawthoung and also provided medical check-ups for them.

“”Thailand Immigration Department sent them[Myanmar migrants] back to Myanmar. Those were detained across various places in Thailand. Myanmar authorities have helped them go home” said a volunteer who participated in the return back home from the border area.

65 migrants returned home from Kawthoung Township under the sponsorship of the Township Administrative Department while 18 Kawthoung dwellers also went to their houses. 

But the remaining 16 faces difficulty due to travelling expenses and had to be relocated to the temporary preservation camp for human trafficking in persons in Kawthoung Township.

Myanmar migrant workers were arrested in Thailand as some of them were illegal workers because some were illegal workers, some have no satisfied documents and some violated the Thailand’s exciting law.

In Thailand, Myanmar workers had been arrested due to various reasons and there were over 300 Myanmar migrant workers returning to Kawthoung gate from Thailand within two weeks.
