Quakes hit Myanmar for two days consecutively

Two slight quakes hit centering inside Myanmar for two days executively, announced the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

A slight earthquake of magnitude 4.3 Richter Scale with its epicenter inside Myanmar (about 15  miles west-northwest of Pyinmana), latitude 19.80°N, longitude 95.97°E, depth 10 kilometers, about 11 miles west-northwest of Nay Pyi Taw seismological observatory was recorded on February 4, 2020.

A slight earthquake of magnitude 4.0 Richter Scale with its epicenter inside Myanmar (about 18 miles north-northeast of Pauk), latitude 21.70°N, longitude 94.57°E, depth 46 kilometers, about 47 miles northwest of Naung-U seismological observatory was recorded on February 5, 2020.

“The quake hit near Nay Pyi Taw had 4.3 Richter Scale and Sagaing Fault is located near Pyinmana. Slight tremors hit nearby frequently,” said Dr Kyaw Moe Oo, Director General of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

Sagaing Fault, a 600-mile long fault stretching from north to south and Myanmar, also has small faults in addition to Kyaukkyan and Kabaw faults.

The quake is a danger which cannot be expected in advance. People need to check buildings and furniture to avoid casualties and government departments have to be alerted to respond and prepare, said experts.
