Although plans are underway to hold Tazaungdaing hot-air balloon festival at Maha Arnthtoo Kantha Sutaungpyae Pagoda in PyinOoLwin in Mandalay Region from 24 to 28 November, now it won’t be held, according to the Festival Organizing Committee.

The committee had planned to release 64 kinds of hot-air balloons including fire crackers (Nya Mee Gyi), and hold Shan traditional dance show and music entertainment program. The festival organizing committee also announced that there will be a free show (no entrance fee) and invited shopkeepers who want to open and sell during the festival.

Moreover, the committee announced that it is fully responsible for the convenience of anyone who will come to the festival because it is continuously discussing and adjusting the necessary security measures with the relevant departments in order to successfully hold the festival. However, the festival will not be held this year.

“The hot-air balloon festival will not be held in Pyin Oo Lwin because the authorities ordered us not to hold the festival. We didn’t know exactly about it. Some of the shop tenants have been reinstated,” said one of the organizing committee members.
