Police cracked down on the protestors holding a protest against military coup near Thabyay Kone circular in Nay Pyi Taw and arrested protestors staging peaceful protest and seized vehicles and motorcycles of protestors.
Police used two water cannon vehicles to disperse the protestors at 2:00 pm on February 18 and arrested protestors and their properties. The exact number of people detained by police is not known at present but the police arrested young women staging peaceful protests and vendors selling near the road according to eyewitnesses and a youth managed to free from the police arrest.
“We were holding a sit-in protest in front of the school. First, the police came and ordered us to move umbrellas we were sheltering. When the people sat their places, the police came from the two sides and sandwiched us from the Thabyay Kone traffic light. Many young girls and vendors were arrested,” said a man in the protest.
The police use water cannon vehicles and reach small streets where the protestors flee from their peaceful sit-in protest place. They took the belongings of the protestors such as motorcycles and vehicles. At present, the whereabouts of the detained people are unknown and the exact number of the people arrested in yesterday’s protest.
