A Police Sub-inspector accidentally killed a truck driver that tried to escape in Nay Pyi Taw on October 7 while a police patrol was trying to stop the truck which carried illegal charcoal sacks.

“Police Sub-inspector Aung Naing Tun and two policemen stopped a six-wheeled truck and found illegal charcoal sacks on it. The truck driver tried to escape and the Police Sub-inspector jumped on the truck while pointing his gun at the driver. A bullet was misfired from his gun and accidentally hit the driver,” said Police Captain Tin Htay, head of Bayakone Township police station.

The decease lived in Ottara Thiri Township and authorities found a damaged cartridge inside his head.

Police Captain Tin Htay lodged a complaint against Police Sub-inspector Aung Naing Tun under Section 304 of the Penal Code at Bayakone Township police station.

“We lodged a complaint against the Police Sub-inspector under Section 304 of the Penal Code first and later with Section 304 (a) of the Penal Code. He will be taken action against in accord with the police act,” said the Police Captain.

“What the people are saying about the rumors are untrue. Only the Police Sub-inspector and two other lower ranked officers were included in the patrol. We only arrested the Police Sub-inspector that had used lethal force. He seemed to have overused his authority,” he said.
