At the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing is expected to pay an official visit to Malaysia in the coming days, according to reports.

During the visit, President U Min Aung Hlaing will meet with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim for bilateral talks. He will also attend the Myanmar-Malaysia Business Forum and deliver the opening remarks.

The two sides are expected to discuss ways to further strengthen the existing friendship and cooperation between Myanmar and Malaysia, as well as enhance cooperation between the two governments and peoples.

On September 29, Malaysia repatriated nearly 1,500 Myanmar nationals to Myanmar aboard a Myanmar Navy vessel sent by the Myanmar government. The Myanmar nationals arrived in Yangon on October 4.

Bernama quoted Malaysian Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil as saying on September 30 that Malaysia was planning to repatriate another 3,524 people to Myanmar as the second phase of its refugee repatriation program.

Fahmi also said that Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim would soon hold discussions with Myanmar to help facilitate the return of Myanmar refugees to their home country.

Anwar rejected allegations that Malaysia was repatriating the refugees to Myanmar without due consideration for their safety. He said on September 29 that continuous engagement and dialogue were necessary to resolve the long-standing issues.
