U Ye Htet from the Anti-Corruption Commission testified as a plaintiff in court against Daw Aung San Suu Kyi for two counts of corruption charge under the Anti-Corruption Law for reportedly receiving bribes that totalled US$ 500,000 from Maung Weik, owner of Sae Paing Company, according to sources related to the case.
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi appeared in the Zabuthiri special court in the compound of the Nay Pyi Taw Council on May 10th. During the hearing, U Ye Htut was mainly questioned and cross-examined by the lawyers of the defendant.\]
The State Administration Council released a video of Maung Weik's statement on March 17, 2021 in relation to the case against Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
In the video, Maung Weik testified that he personally paid Daw Aung San Suu Kyi US$ 550,000 during the period from 2018 to 2020.
Sources related to the case,however, say that a plaintiff witness, Dr. Thant Thaw Kaung, did not show up to testify for other cases against Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. In those cases, she was accused of breaching the procedures and disciplines in applying for 101.33 acres of land in Ottarathiri and 23.855 acres of land in Pobbathiri townships of Nay Pyi Taw in order to establish La Yaung Taw Horticulture Vocational School of the Daw Khin Kyi Foundation.
The trial for these cases is set to be held on May 17th, according to the sources.
